Move in Dates
Students receive their move-in date and time in their assignment email sent from Housing and Residential Life to their Northeastern email address.
As you review your travel plans in the upcoming weeks, it is important that you arrive during your scheduled move-in date and time. If you cannot arrive during that date and time, you must select an alternate arrival date and time from a dynamic list of available time slots for your building. Arrival dates and times are limited per date, time, and building. Beginning Thursday, July 29, you can access the Move-in Arrival Change process in Housing Online.
We recommend that all changes are made to move-in times by 12pm EST on Monday, August 16, 2021.
Preparing for Move-in
To make the move-in experience as smooth as possible for you and our entire community, we ask that you bring only your essentials and a few personal touches to campus. Your belongings should fit in one 4’x3’x3’ hamper or be able to be carried in one trip. Students will be permitted no more than two guests to assist with bringing belongings into your room, and your guests are asked to stay no longer than 2 hours.
Additional information about shipping items to campus mailrooms will be sent in mid-August; however, you should anticipate delays in processing. The combination of processing delays and quarantine restrictions mean that you should not ship any essential items such as medicine, or toiletries that you will need during your first several days in housing. Please do not ship any mail or packages to the hotel, as they will not receive deliveries.
Move-in Days at Northeastern are designed to make your arrival as easy as possible. On your assigned move-in day, you will arrive to your unloading location where a team of movers will assist you with moving your belongings from your vehicle to your room, cruise ship style. While the movers are bringing your belongings to your room, you will check in with N.U.in staff. Once your belongings are removed from your vehicle you will be directed to park your car in a set parking location. More information on your specific move-in, parking, unloading, and check-in location, as well as additional move-in information, will be sent in the coming week. Those updates will also be provided here and on the main Northeastern Move-in Page. Please note, if you request a move-in date change, move-in services may not be available.
This Boston Packing List will provide you with all the essentials to pack for your semester in the N.U.in Boston Program. Things like extra blankets, bathroom essentials and some favorite tech gear can make the experience more comfortable and enjoyable.
Information about what is included in the provided linen pack is listed on the N.U.in Boston Housing page.
Students are encouraged to bring raincoats, an umbrella, and appropriate shoes for wet weather. We recommend bringing clothes that can be layered and mixed and matched since the weather will vary greatly. As Boston has a snowy climate, students should bring a warm coat and appropriate winter apparel.
An adapter is a device that allows international devices to plug into U.S. outlets. You can purchase these at any electronics store. Students from outside the U.S. may consider purchasing an adapter to allow their devices to plug into U.S. outlets.
The electricity supply in the U.S. is 120 volts alternating at a frequency of 60 Hertz. Check whether the electrical goods you plan to bring will work at this voltage. Some international devices, such as hair straighteners and blow dryers, may require a converter.
