The N.U.in Program, administered by Northeastern University’s Office of the Chancellor, began in Fall 2007 with a group of students who studied at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. Since then, the N.U.in Program has continued to evolve with the changing needs of Northeastern and our students. The program developed an academic model that allows students to take courses that fulfill Northeastern core and/or major requirements in addition to one course of cultural relevance to their specific site.

As the program has grown, so has its reputation in the Northeastern community. University leadership observed the strong academic success N.U.in students had once they began classes on campus in the spring, as well as the strong sense of community they brought back.

With overall student development and long-term success in mind, university leadership took a bold step and pushed the innovative nature of the N.U.in Program even further by establishing it as the only official pathway for students to spring admission. Over the course of the program’s history, N.U.in has added new locations and partnerships around the globe, and significantly increased enrollment. Since then thousands of students have completed The N.U.in Program and successfully matriculated at Northeastern University.

The goals of The N.U.in Program are to:

  • Provide students with an opportunity for an enriching first-semester experience
  • Provide a supportive environment that encourages students to develop self-awareness, enhanced cultural sensitivity, respect for diverse beliefs and opinions, and the ability to interact and collaborate with individuals and communities of diverse backgrounds
  • Provide students with a holistic academic experience while earning credit toward their Northeastern undergraduate degree
  • Provide guidance and support to students and families as they navigate the important transition from high school to college
  • Foster a community-building environment
  • Build Northeastern affinity and orient students to the Northeastern culture
