Pre-Departure for Czech Republic

Pre-Departure Orientation

To assist you in preparing for your fall semester, The N.U.in Program will host Pre-Departure Orientation in the summer before your N.U.in fall semester. The N.U.in Pre-Departure Orientation will be offered as a series of mandatory online learning modules and an optional one-day in-person experience on Northeastern’s Boston campus. There will also be additional virtual engagement opportunities throughout the summer leading up to your departure to your N.U.in location, including a mandatory site-specific webinar.

What to Pack

For a suggested packing list, please review the N.U.in Packing Guide. Remember, whatever you pack, YOU will have to carry. Be conscious of the weight of your bags, since transporting them around the world on planes, trains, and buses will be difficult if you over-pack.

Adapters & Voltage Converters: An adapter is a device that allows (American) devices to plug into Czech outlets. You can purchase these at electronics stores or online. Consider purchasing a universal adapter for use outside Czech Republic if you plan to travel. The electricity supply in Czech Republic is 230 volts. Check whether the electrical goods you plan to bring will work at this voltage. Some devices, such as hair straighteners and blow dryers, may require a converter.

Group Flight

The N.U.in Program fee includes a Group Flight for you to travel with your peers to and from your N.U.in location at the beginning and end of the program. The Group Flight also includes transportation from the airport to the student residence at the beginning of the program, and from the student residence to the airport at the end of the program.

Group Flight registration will open in late Spring/early Summer. More Group Flight information, including reservation forms and itineraries will be available through the student Application Status Check at that time.

The Group Flight is optional. You may opt out of the Group Flight if you would prefer to arrange your own transportation for arriving to or departing from the N.U.in location.

Note: Students on the Group Flight are unable to alter any portion of their itinerary as tickets are non-refundable and non-changeable. Students should opt out of the Group Flight if they would like the flexibility to alter their return flight.

If you opt out of the Group Flight:

  • You must arrange your own flight itinerary.
  • Plan to arrive on the program start date as early check-in will not be available.
  • You are responsible for arranging travel from the airport to your student residence at the beginning of the program.
  • If your flight arrives ahead of/at the time of the Group Flight, and there is room on the group shuttle from the airport to the student residence, you are welcome to travel with the group. However, if your flight is delayed or otherwise arrives after the Group Flight, you are responsible for arranging your own travel from the airport to your student residence.
  • Your student account will automatically be credited for the average cost of your program location round-trip group flight ticket. The credit will appear in your student account before the conclusion of the Fall 2025 semester.

Baggage Allowance: Please review the guidelines on the airline website for more specific details on the baggage allowance of the Group Flight airline. It is your responsibility to confirm the luggage policies of your airline(s).

Travel Information Form: To ensure the safety of all participants, ALL students must provide The N.U.in Program with the details of their itinerary, whether you are flying on the Group Flight or independently. You will receive an email in August requesting this information.
