As an N.U.in Northern Ireland student, you will reside in Elms BT9. Students will be in shared apartments or “flats” with approximately 9-10 other N.U.in students. Each student will have a private, single bedroom with an en suite bathroom. All apartments will have a shared kitchen and living space to cook together, study, watch TV and make friends with their “flatmates.” Check out this video from the Queen’s University Belfast team for a glimpse into residential life at QUB!
Amenities: High speed WiFi, water, electricity, heating, hot water, laundry facilities, contents insurance, 24/7 maintenance team and a full social program and support. Each kitchen is equipped with plates, bowls, cups, mugs, and utensils for each student in the flat. There will also be pots/pans, a toaster, and kettle for students to share. A fitted sheet, pillow, pillow case, and duvet are provided.
The housekeeping team also comes in weekly to clean the kitchen/common area of each apartment. Students are responsible for cleaning dishes, clearing spaces of clutter before they clean, and taking out the trash. Students are responsible for keeping their rooms and en suite bathrooms clean.
Common Areas: There is a central building called “The Treehouse” which offers a 24-hour tea and coffee bar, pool tables, karaoke room, study spaces, larger communal kitchens, an outdoor barbecue space, and much more! The Queen’s accommodations staff often provide additional daily programming and events in the Treehouse for students, which N.U.in students can participate in. There is a community garden for students who wish to try their hand at growing produce, as well as a community pantry where students can donate food to those in need.
Meals: As an N.U.in student, you will add cooking to your repertoire! At N.U.in Northern Ireland, accommodations are all equipped with kitchenettes, as meal plans are not a part of university life there. You’ll also have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture, exploring nearby grocery stores, international food markets, cafes, and more with your peers.
Laundry: Onsite laundry is available in the laundry room at the Treehouse. It is a cashless process and students can download an app on their phone and can see when machines are available or when their wash/dry is finished.
Mail: All mail should be sent to students at their accommodations after arrival. The front desk will hold any packages for students for pickup. Further details about the mail process will be covered during the on-site orientation.
Fitness: Queen’s Sport facilities are available to N.U.in students, including the Physical Education Centre (PEC) with a gym suite, weights room, swimming pool, squash courts, indoor cycling bikes, rock-climbing wall, and multi-sports halls. Students are able to attend classes offered at the gym as part of their membership and join club sports teams while attending Queen’s University Belfast.
