Spain: Spain offers a wonderfully diverse landscape which includes flat land, vast expanses of beautiful coastline, and rugged mountain regions. The country is located in Southwestern Europe, bordering the Mediterranean Sea, North Atlantic Ocean, Bay of Biscay, and Pyrenees Mountains at the southwest of France. Spain is a storied country of stone castles, snowcapped mountains, vast monuments, and sophisticated cities.

Madrid: The Spanish capital is one of the most populous in the European Union, a cosmopolitan city where people of over 180 nationalities live together. Madrid is Europe’s sunniest capital city. The blue sky and sunlight enhance the vibrant and joyful energy of the city, gifting it a climate that makes it possible to walk around the city for most of the year. Madrid is filled with art and history, shops and cultural performances, markets, and parks where people come together. The city has a modern transport network that allows people to travel quickly and easily. Madrid is not only a business center but also the headquarters of the Spanish Government and home to Spain’s Royal Family. Its Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas International Airport, Europe’s sixth busiest airport, connects the city to the world.

Neighborhood: The neighborhood offers easy access to a variety of restaurants, cafes, markets, and shops. There are multiple metro stations accessible to both the campus and the residence halls. The campus includes an on-site cafeteria, library, music rooms, student lounges, and more for students to gather and connect. The residence halls are just a short walk away from the campus. All of which have quiet study areas and indoor/outdoor social spaces.

Campus: SLU-Madrid is the European campus of Saint Louis University (SLU), founded in 1818, one of the oldest and most prestigious Catholic universities in the United States. The campus is located near the Ciudad Universitaria residential neighborhood, amidst other universities, private homes, and religious houses in Madrid’s Chamberí District. Chamberí is a traditional district with an aristocratic architectural flair in the heart of Madrid. SLU-Madrid hosts approximately 1,200 students from more than 65 countries.

Climate: Central Spain has a continental climate, where summers are extremely hot, and winter is cold with little to no precipitation. We recommend bringing clothes that can be layered and mixed and matched, since the weather will vary. Below is a chart of average temperatures and precipitation:
